The Honors Program at Barry is designed to challenge, enrich, and prepare especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential. By participating in a rigorous curriculum rounded out by an array of edifying and interactive events, students explore crucial issues that we face in our daily lives. Students are given the space for discussion and debate and the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. The Office of Financial Aid can assist with determining eligibility for the Honors Program.

The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library is located in the center of the beautiful Miami Shores campus of 51²Ö¿â. The Library is named in loving memory of Monsignor William Barry, one of the founders of 51²Ö¿â and an inspirational figure in the Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Miami. The extensive Library research collections include more than 950,000 physical items, over 40,000 print and on-line journal subscriptions, and several thousand on-line books and streaming video resources.

At 51²Ö¿â, you will experience a small community atmosphere where you can always rely on our administrators and faculty for advice, encouragement and personal attention. We take great pride in giving individual attention from the very beginning. You can start building a personal relationship with one of our admissions counselors who will help answer any questions, and guide you through the entire admissions and enrollment process.

Continuing Education (CE) offers a variety of courses and non-credit programs designed to respond to the diverse educational interests and lifelong learning needs of individuals of all ages. We offer certificate, credential exam preparation, and licensure programs for professional and personal enrichment.

High school students: Get a jump-start on your college education with dual enrollment courses from 51²Ö¿â! You can earn high school and college credit at the same time, right at your own school.

51²Ö¿â is committed to provide you with a dynamic and flexible approach to your degree pathway through our online courses and degree programs. We understand that balancing academics, work, and personal commitments can be challenging. That's why our online offerings are designed to fit seamlessly into your busy schedule, allowing you to pursue your educational goals without compromising on other important aspects of your life.

Distance Education

We are committed to providing programs and services that are guided by 51²Ö¿â's rich educational mission and intended to enhance your Barry experience. Through partnerships with others in the university community, we aim to create experiences that will help transform you into leaders for a just and humane world.

We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

Designed to push the best and brightest toward a lifetime of learning, 51²Ö¿â's Honors Program challenges, enriches, and prepares especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential.   • The Honors Program students listed the following reasons as their main reasons for joining the program:

How do I Qualify?

Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to the Honors Program to take advantage of all the benefits, especially Honors courses. Refer to the timelines below to see when you can apply!

Deadlines

  • Fall semester: July 15th
  • Spring semester: December 15th

  • Under Test-Score Pathway, applicants

    • Submit test score (SAT 1310 or ACT 28); and
    • Attain a minimum high school GPA of 3.70.

    Under Test-Optional Pathway, applicants

    • Attain a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.70.
    • Complete the developmental English (ENG 095) or are placed in ENG 111, without a supplemental instruction, prior to an enrollment in the Honors Program courses.
    • Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 from a regionally accredited university.
    • ?Complete all developmental courses.

    • Send official transcripts from previously attended high school and official SAT or ACT score reports to:

    • You will not need to complete a separate application to be considered. After admission to the University has been determined, eligible applicants for 51²Ö¿â's Honors Program will be sent a formal invitation to join our Honors Program.

  • International Applicants to 51²Ö¿â will need to fulfill the following:

    • Complete the undergraduate application for admission.?
    • Send official transcripts, certificates, or mark sheets and/or diplomas from previously attended secondary institutions to:

    • Although, the SAT or ACT is not required to determine admission, it is required to be considered for admission to the Honors Program.
    • Applicants from countries where English is not the native language will need to provide proof of English proficiency demonstrated by the TOEFL or IELTS examination. The minimum score for full admission to a degree program is 61 internet based or 550 (paper based) or 6.0 on the IELTSPlease contact our admission office for further details at admissions@barry.edu.
    • You will not need to complete a separate application to be considered. After admission to the University has been determined, eligible applicants for 51²Ö¿â's Honors Program will be sent a formal invitation to join our Honors Program.

However, applicants who have attended a US institution and have earned at least 24 credits are not required to take the TOEFL examination.     • You will not need to complete a separate application to be considered. After admission to the University has been determined, eligible applicants for 51²Ö¿â's Honors Program will be sent a formal invitation to join our Honors Program.

Scholarship

As an Honors Program student, you may qualify for the Honors Program Scholarship of up to $5,000 per academic year. The scholarship is guaranteed for the duration of your bachelor's degree program at Barry provided that you meet the program's requirements.?

The Honors Program requirements include:

  1. Enrollment at Barry as a full-time undergraduate student (which requires completion of a minimum of 12 credits per semester).
  2. Maintaining a minimum semester GPA and cumulative GPA of 3.5.
  3. Participation in Honors Program events.
  4. Completion of Honors Program courses.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS IF I CHOOSE TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM?

Being an Honors Program student is translated into several benefits. For example:

  • Attend small classes, usually with 10 to 15 students, giving you ample opportunities to engage in in-depth classroom discussions. The intellectual exchange and camaraderie between faculty and peers are among the top reasons students choose to join and stay in the program.??
  • Take courses reserved for only Honors Program students.
  • Gain excellent leadership skills on the Honors Program Student Advisory Board.
  • Embark on an independent research project, preparing you for graduate studies and professional careers.
  • Have a chance to present your research paper at Honors conferences.
  • Sign up for Honors Housing.
